Showcase – Piano Reflections

My latest Expressive All Piano Classical CD is now available: The original compositions were designed generally for ballet class barre and centre work, but are also most suitable for audition entries or stage dances.

Why Piano only? There are many teachers preferring the richer sound of orchestral backing to their music, but also a great many who love to hear just the piano accompaniment to their creations. So students and teachers can step away from the familiar melodies and meet the challenge of something new. The 20 titles were created as a guide in both style and tempo, with the additional timings for those wishing to use the music as an audition or show entry.

Showcase – Dancy Hoppity-Skippity-Spin

I would describe this album Dancy Hoppity Skippity Spin as very happy and fun music to dance to, which is why I chose a title to reflect this. For me musical interpretation is ‘all’ and so when compiling ideas and then composing music to match those ideas, I try to find a different and interesting way of presenting them, using unusual forms of instrumentation to enhance the chosen topics which in turn helps children to identify and interpret dance with original expression.

I also find that experimenting with folk tunes and rhymes, both familiar and new, add a different slant. Its always fun devising a new cd for children, always different, but involves a lot of thought and research. However, this one has been worth all the hours of preparation!

This album is available to order here on CD or as mp3 download.

Showcase – Mosaic

When compiling a new set of children’s dances, one has to think of the appeal of an overall CD name followed by track titles and, of course, the musical content! First, it is vital to research the needs of teachers and find a ‘space in the market’ where this style of music is lacking, and this is how Mosaic came to be launched.

MOSAIC offers 24 choices of character ballet dances suitable for both boys and girls. The boys will love “Froggy-Frolic”!

One of my favourite things is to compose music for children to dance to, so I have included several of my compositions with imaginative titles which I hope will inspire Teachers and dancers alike. The reward for seeing children ‘light up’ is well worth the effort! Festival lengths of character dances are crucial when it comes to time allowed, so I have made sure each item is varied.

With introductions and contrasts within each piece of music for choreographing, there is choice here to compliment todays child.
A much enjoyed experience and challenge for me!

Showcase – Sugar ‘n Spice

It always comes as a surprise to me that this CD is the topmost seller over many years. It all began when I first decided to create music for a nursery class. I was fortunate enough to have many teacher contacts and one dear lady gave me a whole host of ideas that she had found useful for her class of 3-4 yr olds. This spurred me on to further my ideas and try to “get inside” a young child’s mind. I realised it was more than just creating dance exercise music but something to not only stimulate the young child but also inspire the teacher.

The Nursery Rhymes came later as a ‘finisher’ to the class. I was ready to go but – a title which was attractive was vital, and this is where my sister came in. She always had good suggestions and whereas at first I felt that “Sugar ‘n ~Spice” was just a rhyme, it seemed appropriate to name this assortment of music – and how successful it has turned out to be!
